Caprylyl salicylic acid, commonly known as β-LHA(β-lipohydroxyacid, long chain aliphatic alkyl-β-hydroxy-carboxylic acid), is an active compound developed by foreign countries in recent years and applied in cosmetics.

Applications:
Capryl salicylic acid not only maintains the effect of salicylic acid peeling aging keratin, but also enhances the affinity with skin cells, and is easier to penetrate into the cuticle, which can be used as a cosmetic anti-aging, treatment of blackhead acne external ingredients.
Preparation:
1 Preparation of octyl chloride using n-caprylic acid and SOCl2 as raw materials, dichloromethane as solvent, by conventional methods to prepare octyl chloride. The crude product is not purified and is directly used for the next reaction.
94.6g(0.71mol)AlCl3 was added to 236 mlCh2Cl2, and after stirring at 10℃ for 0.5h, 79mLCH2Cl2 solution of 50.0g(0.31mol) octanoyl chloride and 36.0g(0.24mol) methyl salicylate was slowly added within 2 hours. The reaction was carried out at 10℃ for 5h, and the temperature was raised to 30℃ for 12h. Pour the mixture into 600mL of ice water containing 40mL of concentrated hydrochloric acid and stir, stratified, the water layer was extracted with CH2Cl2, combined with the organic layer, washed, and concentrated until the dry gray solid 60.8g. It is directly suspended into 300mL ethanol without purification, then added into 500mL aqueous solution containing 55gNaOH, stirred at 60℃ for 6h, cooled to room temperature after the reaction, added 115mL concentrated hydrochloric acid while stirring, cooled out a large amount of white precipitation, filtered, washed for 2 to 3 times, recrystallized by dichloromethane. Dry to obtain grey white crystal 44.7g, yield 70.5%.
