Physical and chemical properties
Trimethylcyanosilane (TMSCN) is a volatile liquid at room temperature and is used in organic synthesis as a substitute for highly toxic HCN to introduce cyanide groups into molecules.

Applications:
Cyanohydrin is an important organic synthesis intermediate, which is the direct raw material for the synthesis of α-hydroxy acid, α-hydroxy aldehyde, β-hydroxy amine and so on. Therefore, the preparation of cyanohydrin has attracted extensive attention, and the addition reaction of carbonyl compounds with TMSCN(trimethylcyanosilane) is one of the most effective ways to synthesize cyanohydrin.

Preparation:
In the 2000L enamel reactor, 400KgN- methylpyrrolidone was added first, then 400Kg sodium cyanide was added, stirring for 10 minutes, 10Kg potassium iodide catalyst was added, trimethylchlorosilane was added under stirring, and the temperature was controlled below 75℃. When the trimethylchlorosilane was added to 950Kg, the reaction temperature was controlled at 65℃ ~ 70℃. Reflux for 24 hours, filtration, and then dedistillation of filtrate, cut off the medium component of trimethylcyanosilane (boiling point: 112℃), the purity is greater than 98.5%, the remaining components are driven into the reactor to continue the secondary reaction, the reactor continues to be heated to 65℃ ~ 70℃, the reaction time is 12 hours, after the reaction filtration, filtrate recirculation, the medium component is trimethylcyanosilane, and the light components and reconstituted parts are in turn driven into the reactor as the next round of reaction raw materials. This process can increase the yield to 89%.
