PHMG (CAS No.: 57028-96-3, full name: Polyhexamethyleneguanidine hydrochloride) is cationic polymer based on guanidine salts, which is synthesized with hexamethylenediamine and guanidine hydrochloride. PHMG is a new broad spectrum, long-term effective and environmental friendly bactericide.

How PHMG works
PHMG is high molecular polymer, and its hydrophilic group is with strong positive charge when ionized in water. Bacteria is mostly with negative charge and will be absorbed by PHMG, which will inhibit the liposome synthesis of bacteria’s cell membrane to control cell division and finally kill the bacteria. This is why PHMG is more safe than other disinfectants based on chlorine.
