Chemical properties:

white crystal. Melting point 37℃, boiling point 282℃, relative density 1.054-1.064(liquid), refractive index 1.5795, soluble in 7 volumes 95% ethanol and oil flavor. Application:

Used for soap jasmine, orange blossom, cologne type, etc. It can be used as a sweetening and floral agent, and is commonly used with methyl naphthyl ketone, methyl anthranilate, orange leaf oil, etc. It can be mixed well with linalool and its esters, terpinol and its esters, isobutyl phenylacetate, a small amount of undecylactone, etc. If it is shared with a slightly higher boiling point of spices such as methylamyl cinnamaldehyde, the effect is better.

Production method:

2-naphthol is obtained by etherification with ethyl alcohol in the presence of sulfuric acid. Dissolve 2-naphthol in anhydrous ethanol, drop concentrated sulfuric acid, heating reflux for 10h. The reaction solution was poured into 5% sodium hydroxide solution to precipitate off-white crystals, filtered, washed in cold water to pH=7.5, dried, and 2-ethoxynaphthalene was obtained. The yield is 96%. The crude product can be refined by vacuum distillation, and the fraction of 138-140℃ (1.6kPa) is collected. It can also be prepared by the reaction of diethyl sulfate or haloethane with 2-naphthol sodium salt.
