Overview:
Ammonium acetate, also known as "ammonium acetate", has a chemical formula of NH4C2H3O2 and a molecular weight of 77.08. It exists as white crystals with a melting point of 114℃ and a relative density of 1.17. At high temperatures and in hot water, it decomposes. Ammonium acetate is soluble in ethanol and water, but only slightly soluble in acetone. Moreover, ammonia easily evaporates into the air. This compound is produced through the reaction between glacial acetic acid and ammonia. Over the years, there has been an increasing demand for high-purity ammonium acetate with low water content due to advancements in the pharmaceutical industry. Currently available grades include analytical pure, superior pure, pharmaceutical grade, and industrial grade; however, they do not meet the requirements of the pharmaceutical industry adequately. The main issues are that these grades have low content (97%-98%), lack specified pH ranges, contain high levels of water which leads to deliquescence during storage making it difficult to store them properly. Once moisture is absorbed during storage process rendering products unsuitable for further use or treatment resulting in significant waste generation that poses serious environmental pollution risks. Analysis indicates that ammonium acetate products inherently contain certain amounts of water even within analytical pure, superior pure and reagent grade varieties (approximately 2%-3%). This inherent moisture makes them highly susceptible to absorbing additional moisture during storage or usage processes necessitating urgent research on developing methods for preparing high-purity ammonium acetate with reduced water content.
Preparation:
A new synthesis process of high-purity and low-water ammonium acetate (ammonium acetate) comprises the following steps:
(1) Put 240-250KG of high purity ice acetic acid (purity 99.6%) into the reactor, add dehydrating agent (dehydrating agent is a compound containing carbonyl)10-100g, stir and heat 50±5℃;
(2) Under stirring, slowly add 100-110kg high-purity ammonium carbonate (purity 99.9%), dissolve, heat filter;
(3) The filtrate is cooled to 35±5℃ and kept for 4h;
(4) crystallization and drying;
(5) The crystallization of the drying, under the turning, spray with 10-30kg dehydrating agent (dehydrating agent is a compound containing carbonyl), and shake dry;
(6) After the crystallization is dried again, vacuum rotary drying 45±5℃, 0.5-1h.
