Analytical reagents:

Cu-fe reagent is an important analytical reagent, which is the ammonium salt of N-nitrosohydroxylamine, commonly known as cu-Fe. Usually white or yellowish shiny, scaly crystals with a sweet taste that darkens over time as they decompose, but can actually be used analytically. It is soluble in water, benzene, alcohol and ether. The reagent is decomposed by heat to form nitrobenzene. It is unstable in light and air and needs to be stored in a brown ground reagent bottle, usually a small amount of ammonium carbonate wrapped in paper or cloth as a preservative in the bottle, and placed in a sealed and cool place away from light. It can be used as precipitant and solvent extractant for copper, iron, tin, titanium, vanadium, chromium and other elements, and determination of rare earth as masking agent. 

Nitrobenzene is reduced with zinc powder in ammonium chloride aqueous solution to obtain phenylhydroxylamine, and then the latter is dissolved in ether, through the excessive ammonia, and the addition of n-butyl nitrite, the copper-iron reagent can be obtained, and a variety of metal ions to form a stable five-member ring chelate, therefore, it is commonly used as an organic precipitant. Fe3+ ions can be quantitatively determined in strong acid solutions, as well as Cu2+, Sn4+, Ti4+, Ga3+, Hf4+ plasmas and vanadates (VO-3, VO3-3). When Fe3+, Cu2+ ions are mixed with other metal ions, they can be separated by this reagent. It is also a chelating extractor of Al3+, Au3+, Be2+, Co2+, La3+, Pu4+ plasma and a masking agent for the determination of rare earth metal ions.

Purification method:
Add 30 g powdered crude product into 120ml60℃ water to dissolve all of it, add 2g powdered activated carbon, stir for 10 ~ 15min, filter through a burned Brinell funnel, cool the filtrate to 10 ~ 15℃, and then cool it to 0℃ overnight. The crystals extracted by filter with glass sand funnel were washed with 10ml ethanol, then washed with 10ml ether, and dried in the air.
