Overview:

butyl undecyllactone is also known as delta-undecyllactone. Butyrolactone has sweet, fruit, milk, cream, butter, ester, wax, coconut aroma and taste. It is a key ingredient in the special flavor of natural cream. The boiling point is 129 ~ 130.5℃(1×133.322Pa), the refractive index is 1.4564(25℃). It is prepared by oxidation of 2-hexylcyclopentanone. Can be used for soft drinks, confectionery, margarine, ice cream, cold and baked food flavor.

Preparation:

140ml formic acid and 56g urea-peroxide adduct were added into a 500ml three-neck flask equipped with agitator, drip funnel and thermometer, and dissolved by stirring. At room temperature, 28 g (0.17mol) of 2-hexylcyclopentanone was added, about 1 hour. Add 168ml water, stir stratification, water layer with 28ml toluene extraction 3 times, combined with organic layer. The toluene in the organic layer is removed by vacuum distillation, and the temperature is controlled not to exceed 70℃. The remaining product is the crude product of butyl undecyllactone, with a purity of 85% and a yield of 96%. The crude product was distilled with a vacuum film distillation device at a controlled temperature of 128℃ and a pressure of 1.4kpa, and the distilled product was undecyllactone butyl, with a purity of 98% and a yield of 84%.
