Application:

4-chlorobenzophenone is a cream-white or off-white to slightly reddish-white crystal, which is a raw material for the synthesis of pharmaceutical and pesticide products such as the antilipidemia drug fenofibrate and the preparation of heat-resistant polymers. In addition, 4-chlorobenzophenone, as an important chemical intermediate, is widely used in medicine, pesticides, dyes and other organic synthesis.

Synthesis method:

4-chlorobenzoyl chloride (1.5mmol), phenylboric acid (1.25mmol), sodium carbonate (133mg, 1.25mmol). Flush the tube with argon. Seal the tube with a rubber diaphragm. Add toluene and water (3mL each) to the test tube. Transfer the reaction vessel to an oil bath held at 50°C. Stir the mixture for 1 hour. Transfer the reaction mixture to the separating funnel. Dilute the mixture with ether (20mL). Separate the water phase. Use 3MHCl (twice), 5%KOH (four times) and saline (twice). Dry the organic phase with anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The organic phase was evaporated under vacuum by chromatography grade silica gel to preadsorb the crude product. The product was purified by column chromatography on silica gel with hexane-ethyl acetate (30∶1, 10∶1 or 5∶1v:v). Evaporation of the product yields the title compound 4-chlorobenzophenone.
